Jennifer Lopez is stepping into one of the boldest roles of her career. The 55-year-old global superstar is turning heads in the first trailer for Kiss of the Spider Woman, where she's seen in sensual lingerie sharing an intimate kiss with co-star Diego Luna, 45.

What makes the project even more intriguing is that Lopez's ex-husband Ben Affleck is credited as one of the executive producers of the film, alongside his longtime friend Matt Damon.

A reimagining of the 1993 Broadway musical - itself based on Manuel Puig's 1976 novel - the film sees Lopez playing a fictional movie star named Aurora, imagined by a gay hairdresser, Luis Molina (played by Tonatiuh), who is imprisoned for allegedly corrupting a minor.

Directed by Oscar-winner Bill Condon, the musical is set for a theatrical release on October 10, 2025.

Lopez steps into fantasy as Aurora, while Affleck deals with real-life fallout

Aurora, played by Lopez, exists only in the mind of Molina, who creates vivid cinematic fantasies to escape his bleak prison reality. One such fantasy sees Aurora as the titular Spider Woman - a deadly siren who kisses her victims before killing them.

Luna stars as Valentin Arregui, Molina's Marxist cellmate, with whom he forms a deep emotional bond as the story progresses. The film began rehearsals in February 2024, with shooting kicking off in New Jersey in April.

This adaptation follows a legacy of acclaim. The 1985 film version, directed by Héctor Babenco, earned William Hurt an Oscar for Best Actor, while the Broadway musical went on to win seven Tony Awards.

Spider Woman premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and is among Lopez's growing slate of film projects. She also recently wrapped Office Romance, a romantic comedy co-starring Brett Goldstein of Ted Lasso fame.

Lopez's onscreen passion comes amid ongoing speculation about her offscreen life. She and Affleck - once dubbed "Bennifer" - reportedly finalized their divorce recently and made a substantial price cut on their Bel Air estate, dropping the $68 million listing to $60 million.

Sources told TMZ that Affleck has been eager to sell the home and move on. "Ben wants to get rid of it because their divorce is over and he wants to cut all ties and have it be done," an insider said.

Despite Lopez's hopes of holding out for a higher offer, the luxury home has reportedly struggled to attract buyers, with experts suggesting a 15% price drop is necessary. High fire insurance costs - estimated at $500,000 annually - have also discouraged interest, especially following recent wildfires in Southern California.

Although a $64 million offer was reportedly accepted in August 2024, the deal ultimately collapsed due to a family emergency involving the potential buyers.

Now, as Lopez captivates audiences once again on screen, her professional life continues to flourish - even if her personal life with Affleck is drawing to a close.
