Colombia investigates attack in which 7 people were injured in Cali

Bogota, May 19 (Prensa Latina) Colombian public forces are deployed in the southwestern city of Cali, to restore security and capture the guilty ones of an attack that injured three police officers and four civilians, the day before.

According to Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez, authorities are offering a reward of up to 300 million pesos (about $72,000 at the current exchange rate) for information leading to the arrest of those authors for the blast that occurred near Los Lagos neighborhood.

‟We must all get together to put an end to terrorism. Illegal groups in Colombia must demobilize or dismantle, as they have already surpassed the level of criminal degradation, where they do not respect international humanitarian law and attack the civilian population,” the official wrote on his social media account.

Last night, an explosion shocked a Cali community, where preliminary reports talked of three police officers injured, and about four civilians hurt, including two minors.

According to local media, the device used contained 18 kilograms of pentolite and was hidden in a garbage container, from where it was activated by remote control just as two police patrol cars were passing through the area. Cali Police Commander General Carlos Oviedo stated that investigative work is underway, including gathering evidence, reviewing security cameras, and analyzing an alert call received minutes before the explosion.

Cali Mayor Alejandro Eder deplored the incident and considered it very serious for taking place in a residential area near a children’s center, that was also damaged.
