Reliance Hustlers were crowned champions of this year’s North Essequibo Cricket Committee (NECC) T20 competition after beating Affiance Sports Club on Sunday last by 32 runs at Jagmohan ground, Hampton Court, Essequibo Coast in Region #2.
Opting to bat first having won the toss, Reliance Hustlers compiled a competitive 133-5 from the reduced 15-overs while Affiance Sports Club only responded with 101-9 when the overs expired.
The reduction of the overs was due to rain.
Reliance Hustlers, who featured in nine finals before lifting this trophy, started the innings in a disastrous manner, having been reduced to 8-3.
However, opener Mark Austin and former Guyana youth player Rovindra Parsram stitched together a steady, 68-run fourth-wicket stand to repair the initial damage.
The right-handed Austin hit a top-score of 38, an innings laced with three fours and two sixes, while Parsram added an invaluable 27.
