Boost Mobile does refurbs right with the iPhone 7 starting at $199, great prices on iPads, Apple Watch, Samsungs and mobile plans

By

Boost Mobile is the best of the telcos using the Telstra network, with competitive plans offering plenty of data, data rollover, data-free Apple Music, unlimited calls and texts and international call inclusions, too - and with its Refurb Shop, Boost has great prices for refurb tech that's definitely worth upgrading to.

Hats off to Boost Founder and Director Peter Adderton and the entire Boost team for having built a great MVNO-style telco service, and for expanding the Boost Refurb Shop range with a wide range of affordable tech that people will want, especially at the prices.

As Boost Mobile's media release notes, it is definitely a continuation of its leadership in refurbished tech.

So, why is refurbished technology so big these days?

Well, if you have an older phone these days and don't want to spend $1000 to $2000 and more on a new phone, the second hand market has always available, but the rise of refurbished products has been huge.

Refurbs are guaranteed to work, come with a warranty, are guaranteed to not be stolen, and depending on the model, are able to run the latest operating system with iOS, iPadOS and watchOS, or most usually with Android, and iOS 12.5.2, a version that is still supported with current security updates.

They are great alternatives to $200-$500 new Androids from Motorola, Nokia, Realme, Oppo, LG and even Samsung with some of its A-Series.

What's better - an Android flagship from two years ago, or a brand new $200 to $500 Android? They're both good choices.

And in the world of iPhone, if you're still using an iPhone 6s or older, you can upgrade to older but still perfectly good iPhones that won't break the bank, just as with a range of Samsung Galaxy S and Note devices, and Google Pixel 3 units, too.

The iPhone 7 32GB starts at $199, with larger capacities not much more, an iPhone 8 from $299, and the iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS and even iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max at higher prices, but still affordable and at Gumtree-challenging prices due to the benefits of refurbs over privately sold second hand models.

Boost's Refurb Shop is dedicated e-commerce site to include Apple Watches and iPads for the first time. And in addition to putting an "excellent quality refurbished iPhone 7 on sale for $199", the deal is once again available at Coles supermarkets nationally as well, and it's sure to be popular.

Boost Mobile says the expansion of its refurbished range continues the company's "leadership in making pre-loved technology affordable and accessible to Australians. Launching today, premium refurbished iPads as well as popular Apple Watches are available from as low as $249 are available, while it is partnering again with Coles Supermarkets to reduce the price of refurbished iPhone 7s to just $199, a $100 discount from the Coles non-promotional refurb price."

Boost shares that its "customer feedback over the last year and a half, as well as their own 150+% year on year growth in the category, indicates that demand for refurbished electronics continues to grow in the Australian market.

"Boost Mobile estimates that there are now more than one million refurbished devices being sold each year in Australia, with the actual data likely to near 1.5 million over the next 12 months. It’s a trend that reflects global growth, where the refurbished smartphone market is forecast to grow to 332.9 million units with a market value of $67 billion in 2023."

While traditionally Boost Mobile has focused on providing mobile device and data options, we're told "the expansion to wearable and tablet offerings further demonstrates the Boost Mobile promise to continue to provide value and choice to customers.

"As a leading voice in this fast-growing category," Boost says it is "proud to educate on the differences between professionally refurbished and second hand or repaired smartphones – leading by example with high quality refurbished products including 30 day satisfaction guarantee and 12 month warranty, and the peace of mind that comes with its stringent, 72 point check and partnering with like minded organisations including Coles Supermarkets."

Here's how Boost describes the new offerings in its expanded Refurb Shop:

Apple Watch Series 3 and 4:

The Apple Watch Range offered by Boost spans Series 3 and 4 smartwatches. The Series 3 was originally launched for $459 AUD in 2017. Purchasing the Refurb Apple Watch from The Boost Mobile Refurb Shop sets customers back just $249.

This watch allows consumers to monitor health, workouts and fitness goals with all the metrics they need, and visualises them in ‘Stand’, ‘Move’ and ‘Exercise’ rings to gamify health goals and compete against friends. It also has the ability to receive and respond to calls and texts when close to the user’s smartphone, as well as the ability to listen to Apple Music. With heart rate monitoring and alerts, consumers can automate emergency SOS calls for help, and with the range of downloadable apps, consumers can better manage stress or sleep schedules. All this is possible through the sleek 38 or 42mm Retina Display, which supports up to 50m of Water Resistance, GPS and Siri Voice Assistant.

iPads arrive:

The new iPad additions include the iPad 5 and 6, as well as the iPad Air 1, Air 2, Air 3 and Mini 4. The iPad 5 was originally launched with an RRP of $469. It features a 9.7” Retina Display with 2048 x 1536 resolution (246pp – over 3.1 million pixels). The display also has multi-touch support. The device features a slim, 7.5mm thin aluminium body construction. With 1.2MP Face Camera and 8MP rear camera, it can record 1080p video. The iPad also supports data connectivity and comes with a bonus $30 Boost Mobile Prepaid SIM included, giving 20GB of data on Australia’s largest network.

The $199 iPhone 7 at Coles Supermarkets:

At the same time as Boost announces these new Refurb Shop offerings, they are also offering a better than ever deal on refurbished iPhone 7s with Coles Supermarkets.

With Coles currently selling the iPhone 7 for $299 and previously the iPhone 8 for as low as $359, "this promotion succeeds in getting the iPhone 7 down to just $199 as a limited time offer, while stocks last. Working with Coles since November 2020, the two brands share a dedication to delivering value to customers while improving sustainability outcomes by extending the useful life of high-quality technology."

"With a 12MP back camera, 7MP selfie camera and a range of smart features that include fingerprint scanning and Siri smart assistant, the Apple iPhone 7 combines the quality technical features that consumers expect at a price they don’t."

The company advises the "unlocked Boost Mobile Refurbished iPhone 7 from Coles will come bundled with a $10 Boost Mobile Starter SIM as an attractive option for customer looking to switch on Australia’s biggest mobile network.

"The broader offerings The Boost Mobile Refurb Shop will also come bundled with a Boost Mobile $30 SIM boasting 20GB of data and unlimited calls and text."

Peter Adderton, the Founder of Boost Mobile said: "Boost Mobile has always truly believed that our constant mission is to find value for our customers and provide them with solutions that best suit their needs. It has been a key driver for our continued success and growth over the past 20 years."

General Manager of Boost Mobile, Jason Haynes said: "There is a growing acceptance of refurbished devices in Australia as people realise the great value and number of quality options available.

"On top of that trust knowing each device has gone through rigorous testing, cleaning, and re-packaging process.

"As the number 1 mobile youth brand in the country that has already done the work in to become a trusted refurb seller, Boost is well positioned to deliver these additional options to value-driven customers.”
