Armed Carjacking, Shooting in Homestead Ends in Crash With 2 Critically Injured

Suspected carjacker one of two people hospitalized after violent crash

Police in Homestead and Florida City are investigating a shooting and armed carjacking that ended in a crash that left two people including the suspect critically injured Thursday morning.

The carjacking and shooting happened in the area of Palm Drive and Northwest 6th Avenue in Florida City around 8 a.m., police said.

The suspect shot at the carjacking victim, but missed, authorities said.

The suspect then fled in the victim's car before crashing in the area of Redland Road and Northwest 8th Street in Homestead.

The suspect was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition along with the driver he crashed into.

A nearby resident said she ran out to help the woman who had been involved in the crash.

"I see this lady literally crawling on the ground with her two kids coming this way so I immediately run out my front door and bring her in the house and try to calm her down," Chloe Blocher said.

Authorities recovered a firearm at the scene of the crash, officials said. The carjacking victim did not sustain any injuries.

Florida City and the Homestead Police Department are investigating the incident.
