A professional adventurer from Blackpool is on track to become the world’s first person to travel around Great Britain on a stand-up paddleboard.

Jordan Wylie is attempting to complete a circuit of the island in under 365 days, a target set for him by Guinness World Records.

He is now halfway through the challenge and is so far on track to hit his target to become not only the world’s first person to complete the circuit, but also the person who completed it in the fastest time.

The 37-year-old said: “I set off on July 26 and I’ve done 111 days. I’m now off the coast of west Scotland.”

“In my head I’m trying to finish before March, so that’s my goal, but what I’ve learned as I’ve been going round is it’s not really up to me how fast I want to go, it’s up to mother nature.”

“I used to check things like Facebook and Instagram, but now I check apps that tell me the weather.”

Mr Wylie - who is living at sea for the duration of the challenge due to Covid restrictions - is hoping to raise a total of £100,000 through his paddleboarding efforts in aid of Frontline Children, with the money helping to build a new school in the Horn of Africa for children in war torn areas.

“This year I was supposed to run 10 marathons in the 10 coldest places on earth,” the extreme adventurer revealed.

“In January I went to Siberia in Russia to do the marathon, in February I went to Alaska, in March I went to the Yukon in Canada and then I went to Iceland. I was on my way to the North Pole and then COVID stopped the world from turning.”

“One of the only things you were allowed to do at the time was paddleboarding because you’re out on the water and you’re away from everybody, so I thought well, let’s make a new adventure.”

The former soldier and bestselling author has so far raised £19,000 of his target.

He is now appealing for more people to donate via website thegreatbritishpaddle.com, as well as to share his fundraising efforts on social media.

“It’s not easy, it’s probably the toughest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but the world’s in a bit of a mess right now and hopefully I can inspire a bit of hope for the future for a good cause,” he said.

“The world’s in lockdown and I sort of think what else would I be doing except this? I get to see dolphins, seals, incredible wildlife, nature, great scenes and views everyday.”
