The first thing that you will notice is how large the Pixel 2 XL with its huge 6-inch screen with P-OLED technology and Quad HD resolution. Although the difference between P-OLED and AMOLED is said to be minor, the high-resolution unit wins in this case. To further protect your precious investment, here’s to Gorilla Glass 5.

Regarding hardware, there’s nothing but the best going on with the Pixel 2 XL as it is equipped with the Snapdragon 835 chipset, fast Kryo octa-core processor, great graphics and 4GB RAM. There’s absolutely nothing that will slow it down.

Camera-wise, Google is not always the best in terms of camera performance. But with the 12.2MP-8MP camera setup on the Pixel 2 XL, you should be able to capture good-looking photos with it. We are still waiting for a dual camera setup.

With no expansion slot, you will have to make do with 64GB of internal storage. Google does promise to provide an unlimited amount of cloud storage, but it will only last until 2020.

As for the battery, a 3520 mAh battery should do just fine to power up the smartphone for a full day of charge. There’s the fast battery charging feature available which will minimize the charging time.

Finally, the latest and greatest operating system in the form of Android Oreo 8.0 will be available right out of the box. As with any other Google devices, it will not have any unnecessary applications on it – no bloatware.

With that in mind, let’s now turn our attention to the iPhone 8 Plus which has the following specs:

  • 5.5-inch Full HD LED-backlit IPS LCD with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~401 ppi pixel density

  • 4G LTE
  • September 2017 release date
  • $799 USD price tag

Just like Google, the latest Apple smartphone will also be featuring the larger ‘Plus’ variant. But iPhone 8 Plus won’t be as big though, as the smartphone only comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD LED-backlit IPS screen. It does have the advantage of True-Tone display technology that automatically adjusts white balance to match the light around you. This will give better viewing experience in all kinds of environments. With a wide colour gamut and the best colour accuracy in the industry, everything on the screen looks more brilliant and vibrant. It also features enhanced protection features with the ion-strengthened glass and oleophobic coating.

Performance-wise, the iPhone 8 Plus features the upgraded A11 Bionic chipset with six cores. There will now be four efficiency cores that are up to 70 percent faster than A10 Fusion, and two performance cores that are up to 25 percent faster. 3GB RAM makes for a much better multitasking with the smartphone.

Camera-wise, it is the perfect time to release its own dual camera setup with the dual 12MP primary camera that is packed with lots of interesting features and functions. You can experience some solid photo-taking adventure.

Augmented reality or AR is what the future is all about, that’s why you will need the A11 Bionic chipset to power up the extraordinary augmented reality apps and games that will change the way you see the world.

Battery-wise, iPhone 8 Plus also comes with a much bigger 2675 mAh battery that ensures you have all the power for a full day of charge. A second‑generation performance controller provides more power when you need it, while delivering the same great battery life. With no charging cable required, iPhone 8 is truly designed for the future of wireless.

Finally, iOS 11 is set to be Apple’s most advanced operating system yet. New features and capabilities fundamentally improve the way you do things. The Files app brings all your files together. iOS 11 takes advantage of the security of Face ID and Touch ID to bring Apple Pay to Messages.

Can’t remember everything these days? Having a hectic day, and in need of a virtual assistant to handle more things on your plate? You will benefit from the trusted virtual assistant, Siri. With sophisticated features like proactive suggestions, predictive typing, and everybody’s favourite intelligent assistant, iOS makes everything you do easier, quicker, and more fun. Talking to Siri is an easier, faster way to get things done. And iOS makes Siri even more helpful. Thanks to advanced machine learning, you can simply speak naturally. And Siri does too, with a new, more expressive voice.

Conclusion:

Google Pixel 2 XL will stand tall with its large 6-inch Quad HD P-OLED screen, great protection, great hardware, good battery and the latest operating system. Fast hardware coupled with fast software. The only downside will be on its camera, or the lack of a dual camera when everyone else is having them as a standard feature.
